Wicker Park – Wicker Park may have changed a lot since the 1990s, but Liz Phair is still the person the neighborhood is proud of, even if she was only there for a short period of time and actually grew up. Then I’m Nicer Than My Face Looks Shirt in Winnetka. They still asked her, as they did with Nelson Algren before her, even though she had lived in California for many years. It was probably fair, because her most appreciated album, her 1993 debut album, the Exile scarf in Guyville, recorded scenes in Chicago in the 1990s and Wicker Park was the focal point. Phair, now 52, may have moved a long time ago, but she’s still writing music, and her first book, Horror Story, is coming out on Tuesday.

Despite the title, it is not a story about a lone Guy Guyville woman or a story about a male-dominated industry or a Chicago setting in the 1990s. I’m Nicer Than My Face Looks Shirt and it is a collection of brutal honest stories about things that have affected Phair so much, making her become herself. She may be famous for provocative lyrics, but she’s never been as nude as in well-written books, including stories from her childhood, before and after her break. music, childbirth, prior marriage, and some relationships, as well as casual encounters with strangers. Bob Chiarito, collaborator of Chicago’s Block Club spoke to Phair about her book, the difference between it and her music, her new album and more. A lot of your songs tell stories. However, a lot of them are open to interpretation. With books, the stories you tell are literally written and I’m Nicer Than My Face Looks Shirt! Is this what you were aware of when you started writing the book? I knew it would be my complete self-talk, rather than Liz Liz Phair and I think over the years, that aspect of me has become very clear and a very strong narrow signal. There is a way I speak in Liz Liz Phairian when I write songs that I thought were a challenge at first. Like, how do I extend a three-minute song into a chapter and turn it into my real speech? So I have to find a voice and it takes a while.
